Weddings are one of life’s most special occasions and at Dupree Catering, we consider it a privilege to share in the joy and celebration surrounding a new marriage. There are many types of food service to offer at your reception- from cocktail buffets to seated dinners. If your wedding takes place after 5:00, a substantial amount of food should be served. Many brides choose to serve heavy hors d’oeuvres in place of a dinner. This type of menu works well for a less formal affair, encouraging guests to move about the reception site. Seating is generally provided for at least two thirds of the guests, depending on the length of the event and the age of the attendees.
Another option is to serve a beautifully presented buffet dinner. While a full meal is served, guests are usually free to sit where and with whom they’d like. Everyone should have a seat for this type of event. Tables may be fully set, or silverware may be simply wrapped in a napkin, tied with a pretty ribbon, and placed on the buffet, along with the dinner plates. Cake cutting and toasting can be done immediately after dinner when everyone is still seated. The cake can then be served by waiters at the table or offered buffet style, along with a coffee. While some waiters are needed to refill drinks and clear plates, the service cost for this type of meal is often much less than a seated dinner.
The most formal style of dinner service is that of the “plated dinner”. Tables are fully set, with or without place cards, and waiters serve each course while attending to guest’s every need. Cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres are often served in a separate area of the reception site before the dinner. A champagne toast may be offered to celebrate the new bride and groom.
